New Brant Parker Blues Band CD: River of Broken Dreams

River of Broken Dreams, the latest CD from St. Catherines's own Brant Parker Blues Band is an amazing example of straight ahead, old fashion boogie blues.

Brant's voice has character whether he's funking it up with songs like Designated Down Time or crooning with slow jams such as Same Old Blues. His talented band backs him up with gusto on all the numbers.

The group's joined by a number of incredible guest stars, including Hamilton's Jack de Keyzer, who produces and adds his his amazing guitar work to three  songs. Al Duffy plays bass on two tracks as well.

This wonderful disc is available at the band's live shows and can be downloaded through their bandcamp site.

New Jack de Keyzer CD: Electric Love

Local bluesmaster Jack de Keyzer has always known how to the rock the blues.  With his latest release, Electric Love, the man's proven he can really amp it up and unleash the power.

The CD's high-energy, loud blues is like a call to arms: Jack means business.  There's no doubt he can riff with the best of them and his voice can rattle the walls if needed.

That's doesn't mean he's sacrificed nuance for power.  Amazing, soulful, funky and slinky grooves pepper the album.  He even finishes off the disc with a dynamic acoustic version of the title track.

Jack is ably aided an abetted by David McMorrow (Rough Trade) on keyboards, Alan Duffy on bass and Rick Donaldson on drums.

The CD is available at his live shows, through Indiepool, and as a download through iTunes and eMusic.

Jack de Keyzer and Garth Vogan Play on Latest Chris Murphy CD: Hotwired

London Ontario's Chris Murphy blows a mean sax and can sing up a storm. For his latest solo CD, Hotwired, he decided to bring in some extra big guns to add to the fun.

Waterdown's Garth Vogan slaps the bass throughout the CD. Also, local guitar legend Jack de Keyzer lends guitar solos to two songs: Something Else and Hold it Right There. As if that weren't enough, Teddy Leonard of Fathead plays guitar and Lance Anderson (who also produces) joins them on keys.

With all that amazing talent, you can't help but come out with a rockin' disc. Jazzy, swingin' instrumentals are joined by blues rockers and boogie woogie workouts. This is one feel-good disc!

The album is available at his live shows and as a download on iTunes, cdbaby and eMusic

Below is a live performance of a song from the CD.

New Susan Wylde CD: In the Light

Local vocalist/pianist Susan Wylde has released great CDs in the jazz/pop vein. Now with her latest collection, In the Light, she is delving more into her bluesey side. Thanks to the talent of Susan and her band, you can tell it's a side worth exploring.

The disc has high energy, soulful, infectious, funky music. The opening track, One Real Man, gets things off to a swinging start. Other highlights include Lovely Push-Up Bra (an old-timey, jazzy piece dedicated to the late Jeff Healey), the emotional Turn Me On, and the boogie woogie soul of the title track.

Susan also lends her amazing, expressive voice to such classics as Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out, Georgia on My Mind, The Thrill is Gone, and At Last.

Accompanying her on the disc is a treasuer trove of Canadian Blues talent. There's local guitarist, Jack deKeyzer (who also co-produces), Jerome Godboo, Paul Reddick, Alec Fraser, Denis Keldie, and many more.

The CD is available at her live shows and also as a disc or download at CDbaby.

Jack De Keyzer Plays on John Mays (Fathead) Debut Solo CD: I Found a Love

Hamilton's Jack De Keyzer is one of many talented guests on I Found a Love, the debut CD of the fabulous Fathead frontman John Mays.

This incredible disc features John and his friends playing many rock, soul and R&B favourites such as Jesus is on the Mainline, People Sure Act Funny, and Jealous Guy.

Jack plays guitar on the funky Have Mercy Baby, a Dominoes cover. Also on the track are Muddy Waters drummer Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Michael Fonfara (Downchild) on keys, and more.

John's Fathead bandmates Al Lerman and Teddy Leonard play throughout the disc as well. Also appearing are Denis Keldie, Alec Fraser, Lance Anderson, and Al Cross (Big Sugar).

The CD is available at finer music stores everywhere, at Fathead gigs, or can be ordered online.

Jack De Keyzer Plays on Harmonica Shah CD: Live at the Cove

Once again, Detroit Bluesman Harmonica Shah has enlisted the help of local guitar master Jack de Keyzer. This time, the two talent musicians join forces on the CD, Live at the Cove.

You can definitely hear why Shah has teamed up with Jack quite a few times. He does an amazing job playing the axe for the CD's raw, down and dirty blues sound. There's a lot of boogie, funk, and some old-fashioned soul. The band handles it all with panache.

The duo are backed by Canadians Alec Fraser (bass) and Al Cross (drums)

The disc is available in stores and as an iTunes download.
