New Pete Van Dyk and the Second Hand Band EP: Live at the Casbah

Local musician, Pete Van Dyk and his group, the Second Hand Band, were always masters of hard rocking, punk-like blues. This is even more evident in their recent EP, Live at the Casbah.

The rawness of the sound is amped up in this collection. The guitars scream louder and Pete's vocals match their power. This ain't toe-tappin' play-on-the-front-porch blues - this is pump your fist and shake your butt music.

Pete and the gang offer up live versions of songs from their previous album and a great new tune called Friday Night.

As an added bonus, the download is pay what you can. They are trying to fund a new album so don't be stingy - another disc from these guys will definitely be worth it.

New BowTie EP CD: Sequins

In just 5 songs, local group BowTie manages to show the listener what they're all about. The EP, Sequins, is superb modern alt-pop with angelic voices and folky flourishes.

Despite the contemporary feel, it's not over-blown or over-produced. You can feel the strong emotion in the vocals and the artistry of the instruments.

The CD is available at their live shows and as a download on iTunes or Bandcamp

New Fraser/Daley CD

Former Hamiltonian Mike Daley (Uncle Violet), and Alec Fraser (Jeff Healey, Jack deKeyzer, Mel Brown) have teamed up as Fraser/Daley to create a superb self-titled CD of high energy folk blues.

The duo works extremely well together. Both have distinctive vocals that mesh perfectly when they harmonize. Daley is a talented guitarist and Alec is rightfully renowned for his bass playing.

You'll definitely be tapping your toes and clapping your hands to these great examples of traditional country blues. Alec and Mike put their great spin on old classics like Bad Luck Blues, Welcom Table, Keep It Clean, more and also work their magic on original numbers like 140 on the 401, Homesick Daddy, Turn This Rig Around, etc.

Tripleplay Debut at the Casbah

On Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, the blues band Tripleplay were introduced to the masses as they unleashed their good rockin' blues.

Tripleplay features Paul Lawrence on guitar and vocals (Big Trouble Band, Roughcut, Southbound), Bill Good on bass (Big Trouble Band, Silver Crickets) and Paul's daughter Megan on drums.
