Readers of Hamilton's View Magazine have had their say!  The mag's Reader's Choice Awards for 2013 have been unveiled.

All the votes are tallied and the Hammer has chosen their local favourites: From the best music, to the best place to break up (Gore Park, by the way) to the finest shops in the land.

Musically, the big winners are rock group Monster Truck with 3 wins and This Ain't Hollywood with 4 (co-owner Lou Molinaro landed an additional two)

Hamilton Music Award Winners

 
Congratulations to all the winners from the 2012 Hamilton Music Awards.  It was an amazing showcase of  all the wonderful talent we have in the city.

The big winner was Terra Lightfoot, who received three well-deserved awards (Female Artist, Female Vocalist, Alt-Country Album).  Blues veteran Harrison Kennedy walked away with two (Male Vocalist, Blues Album) as did Tomi Swick (Pop Recording, Video) and Luke Doucet (Adult Alternative Recording w Whitehorse, Best Guitarist)

The ceremonies were held November 15-18, 2012 at the McIntyre Theatre in Mohawk College.

Dinner Belles CD Debut: West Simcoe County

Call it infectious country, folk rock, roots rock, or whatever you like; the Dinner Belles' debut CD, West Simcoe County, will defintely get you in a good mood.

The hooks are catchy, the harmonies are wonderful and there's a whole mess o' sounds for variety. Mandolin, banjo, piano, slide guitar, ukelele, harmonica and more add to the richness of the music.

The band is a supergroup of sorts, boasting such local vets as Terra Lightfoot (Secret Heights), Brad Germain (Marble Index), Greg Brisco (keyboards for several local players) and more.

Together they have created some incredible toe tapping, finger snapping numbers and a few beautiful, soft, slow ones as well.

The disc is available at their live shows, as a download on Bandcamp.

New Secret Heights (Terra Lightfoot & Cam Malcolm) EP

There's a beautiful sense of warmth that comes with listening to the the debut EP of folk duo Secret Heights. This is bare bones folk music at it's best.

The disc was recorded in a cottage and it shows. You can feel the laid back, serene, intimate atmosphere throughout the whole recording.

Secret Heights is the project of two talented local musicians: Terra Lightfoot and Cam Malcolm. They harmonize exquisitely and their guitar work is wonderful. Terra also tickles the ivories on occasion.

The EP is available at their live shows and as a download on Band Camp.
